DESIRED Project at ICCDU 2025 – Presentations and Workshop on Carbon Recycling

The DESIRED project proudly participated in the 22nd International Conference on Carbon Dioxide Utilization (ICCDU 2025), held from 23–27 June 2025 in Lisbon, Portugal. Hosted by IST–University of Lisbon and NOVA-FCT School of Science and Technology, this year’s conference focused on “CO₂ for a Circular Economy”.

The DESIRED consortium contributed actively to the scientific programme with several impactful presentations:

  • Dr. Pavla Eliasova (Charles University) delivered an oral presentation on “Zeolite- and Frustules-Assisted Tuning of Cu₂O Facets for Photocathodes for CO₂ Conversion”.

  • Prof. Angela Dibenedetto (CIRCC – University of Bari) represented DESIRED at the dedicated workshop.

  • Prof. Michele Aresta (IC2R) gave an invited lecture on “Correlation of CO₂-Reduction-Products (CO₂RPs) to Cu₂O-facet Structural Parameters in Photo(electro)chemical Reduction of CO₂ in Water under VIS-light: A DFT Study”.

  • Prof. Renata Solarska (Warsaw University) presented “Advancing Photoelectrochemical CO₂ Reduction: A Stable and Efficient Copper Oxides Based Photocathode Architectures”.

  • Dr. Domenico Caringella (IC2R) showcased a poster titled “Frustules as New Facet-Inducers for Cu₂O Applied in CO₂-H₂O Coprocessing under Solar Irradiation: Selective Production of C1 and C2 Species in CO₂-Reduction Reactions”.

A key highlight was the workshop on “Carbon Recycling in EU Projects” co-organised by DESIRED on 24 June 2025. The workshop featured presentations from leading EU-funded projects, a keynote lecture by Anastasios Perimenis (Secretary General of CO₂ Value Europe) on EU policy developments, and a panel discussion addressing synergies and challenges in the CCU field.

In the event, the DESIRED project roll-up banner and project leaflets were displayed and distributed, strengthening the project’s visibility and outreach.

The DESIRED consortium is proud to continue advancing innovative solutions for a sustainable, circular carbon economy.
